MAGIC CITY COUNTERPOINT x FUZZY GHOST PRESENT

DIALOGUE

Part game/part music release, Dialogue invites you to wander around in a surreal world conjured by music.

“We have been working on this thing for such a long time, and we're so keen to share it with you. With the help of game designers Fuzzy Ghost, the music has manifested a weird world that you can inhabit and play in for a little while as the sounds wash over you.

When we started making this music, it was pre-covid, and both of us had children at baby/toddler stage. Its creation has tracked a wild few years in our lives, and it's been such a fulfilling collaboration. Mostly executed through files sent back and forth over email, we've had a rule that basically you don't send anything that you're not happy to have deleted or unrecognisably mangled. This has given the whole thing a directness, a lack of hesitation, and maybe a sense of trust that I hope you hear in the final product.

We never felt quite right about popping it up on Spotify and leaving it at that. This isn't - and was never conceived to be - playlist music. We wanted to find a way to encourage people to slow down and take it in. Enter Fuzzy Ghost - our incredible friends with already two extremely well-received indie games under the belt. Their games have a sense of stillness and contemplation delivered in playful surrealism which felt exactly right for the world we wanted our music to live in. We managed to convince Arts QLD to give us some money to make a world for our EP.

Fuzzy Ghost - aka Pete Foley and Scott Ford - worked with us to create this audiovisual landscape that morphs with the music and kind of conjures itself via the songs. Pete and Scott just have the most tremendously vast imaginations, and every conversation that we had with them had us totally inspired by their unexpected but always so brilliant ideas. They also took the time to deeply absorb the music and allow it to guide them. The work they put in far outstripped the remunerations our meagre grant money provided and we are so eternally grateful for what they've made.

We're both thankful to our families who've helped make the time for this work to come about and supported us along this long journey.
